Taste Panel – Strawberry Kiwi Juice

May 10, 2010

At UF, there’s this thing called a taste panel. It’s run by the College of Food Science and Human Nutrition aka my major (for now). I was introduced to this last year when I took a class called called Man’s Food, and one of the requirements was to go to the taste panel. If you go, you get free things (like a coupon for the restaurants on campus or something). You can stop by anytime you see the sign “Taste Panel Today!” The first time I went I had guava juice, second time was fried fish, and this time was strawberry kiwi juice. I had two samples—I said the first one had a weird aftertaste, and the other was sweeter with more strawberry flavor. I had an opportunity to work here, but I was hesitant about turning in the app because I have another job.. but yeah, that was my morning. I plan on going more often. :)

By the way, the cracker and water is used to clean out your mouth between each sample!

Hooters – Gainesville, Fl

May 10, 2010

Yesterday my neighbor, Scott, drove us to 5 or so different restaurants.. that were closed. So where did we end up? Hooters. Why? Because he saw some UFC match on the TVs through the windows and the restaurant next door was closed. Boo. I learned that Hooters originated in Clearwater, Florida. What else did I learn? You can pay 9 bucks for a sandwich and fries will NOT come with your meal AND you will be charged extra for ranch. Hrumph. The buffalo chicken sandwich I ordered tasted alright. The chicken was still crunchy drenched in all that saucyness and they buttered my buns! I like buttered buns.
Before I forget, neither I nor my neighbor are fans of Hooters wings. There’s definitely better out there (eg. my dad’s). All in all, you either go to Hooters for the sports or something else.. most definitely not the food.

My midnight snack tonight

May 8, 2010

So I thought I would be okay not eating dinner tonight because there’s simply nothing to eat. That’s what I always think when I look in my FULL pantry/freezer/fridge.. there’s nothing to eat. I wish I had someone to cook for me! But yeah here I am throwing crap together. After midnight and.. eating.. after midnight. What an out of the norm midnight snack I made. I basically got seaweed and threw some rice on there then added shredded pork and attempted to fold it. I think. Oh and of course I didn’t forget the soy sauce and Crystal! And yes I randomly have ginger in my fridge. I don’t know if this is a legit hand roll or not because I’ve never ate/made them before! But I’ve served them at my old job.. hah.

Cookies ‘n Cream Milkshake – Chick-Fil-A

May 7, 2010

I was craving this baby all week long! I kept denying myself a milkshake because I was able to convince myself I didn’t need it.. and in the end I was just putting it off for later (accident!). Then someone wise told me, “You’ve had a long week. Just do it.” So I did it and brought it into work with me. I like Chick Fil A milkshakes simply because I like their soft serve. I got cookies and cream because I was really craving Oreos too! My favorite milkshake from Chick Fil A has to be the peach one though. So, where’s my favorite place to get a milkshake? Baskin Robbins! Why? ‘Cause when I was little, my mom would take me there whenever she was craving her beloved butter pecan milkshakes, and I’d just get some kiddie cone and drink half her drank =]. I like my milkshakes/smoothies/daquiris thick. Like..

Chick Fil A’s isn’t like that because it’s soft serve, but yeah. :)

Sippin’ On Some Riesling

May 6, 2010

I have the apartment to myself for the rest of the week/weekend. It’s time to crack out the wine and run around naked! YAY! I like the way this glass of (Yellow Tail) Riesling reflects my food pictures hanging on the kitchen wall. =)

Cinco De Mayo – Barbacoa Burrito

I decided to get a big fat burrito tonight since it was Cinco de Mayo. I wanted to go try La Tienda but they were closed! So, I had to resort to Chipotle. It doesn’t taste like Mexican food at all, but hey, it was wrapped in a tortilla.. or two. I get my burritos double wrapped.. that means more calories for me. Yikes!! I just calculated my burrito’s nutritional facts.. if it had corn salsa, tomato salsa, barbacoa, rice, sour cream, lettuce, and fajita veggies all wrapped in two 13” tortillas, then that comes out to 1125 calories! To compensate.. I can say I only ate a little over half of it……

but you see.. I’ve had this dire craving for ice cream ALL DAY LONG..

Texas Roadhouse

May 4, 2010

Bloomin’ Onion? No, but I wish it was. Hm.. how do the onions even get like this?

I ate at Texas Roadhouse tonight and eh, my favorite part had to be the yeast rolls.. but we ate it all too quick so I didn’t get a picture.. asked for more and they never brought it. Gr. So get this, I had a coupon that said if I got an entree I’d get a free onion blossom thing right.. the menu had ‘Baby Blossom’ or ‘Cactus Blossom’ (which is way bigger) so of course when they brought out the Baby Blossom I was like.. uh.. I ordered the big one! So they brought that out to me.. then at the end of the night my server was like oh you’re coupon was for a BABY Blossom not a Cactus Blossom.. and I told him I saw the word CACTUS on the coupon.. turns out the coupon said BABY CACTUS Blossom! Typos/false advertising ftl!

On a side note: This was my first and last time at this restaurant. The food wasn’t that great. My gigantic fried onion was still too pungent. My steak tasted like it wasn’t seasoned. Oh, and the service was pretty crappy. I used to be a server. I have criteria they need to live up to. Hah. And oh, dear waitresses standing behind my booth: please don’t talk about all the people you had sex with while you were dating some guy just to get a puppy from him.. I’m trying to eat and not laugh at you in your face k? Thanks!

Amber’s Made Up Pasta.. in 4 easy steps!

May 3, 2010

After work, my roommate Amber (she wanted her name on here because she’s so vain) decided to cook dinner for us. It was spaghetti noodles with a buncha vegetables (spinach, onions, peppers, mushrooms) and meat and wine/butter/olive oil/garlic/basically whatever we could find. She wanted me to document the entire thing and give her credit for cooking it. Haha. WELL! HERE YA GO!

Step 1: Cut up the peppers and onions however you like.

Step 2: Drain the noodles that you’ve been boiling in water, butter*, oil, and salt. Keep some of the liquid.

Step 3: Throw whatever you can find (the peppers and onions you cut earlier, spinach, meatballs, chicken, some of the pasta boil liquid, wine, olive oil, mushrooms, salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, basil, butter*) into a pan. Stir in the pasta and proceed to step 4..

Step 4: VOILA! Top it off with grated Parmesan and you’re done!

Do the Spicy Crab Roll

May 2, 2010

“Oh, what restaurant did you get that at?”

NONE! ‘Cause I made this myself! Well, not today, because I just got home from Friday’s with my friend, but I did make this about a year ago. Looks legit huh? I remember my brothers and cousins hovering over me wanting to try some, and I let them. They liked it. Haha. Anyhows, I plan on making sushi sometime next week, seeing as I have all the supplies in my fridge now. I actually like eating sushi because it doesn’t make me feel so heavy.. well, unless I eat over 3 rolls. Now that’s another story I’ll have to save for later. :)

Mesquite Grilled Chicken Sandwich w/ Avocado

May 1, 2010

First day of my month! MAY! And for my first actual meal, (this morning I ate oatmeal….) I made a sandwich that reminded me of my favorite breakfast torta.. I guess it’s just because I put avocado on a grilled chicken sandwich w/ bbq sauce but still.. now I’m gonna have to look through my pictures for my fave torta and post it on here! ‘Cause I probably won’t be getting to eat it anytime soon.. ! Boo stinkin’ hoo. :[
